After Sri Lanka team lost to Zimbabwe in a 5 match ODI series, Sri Lankan Captain Angelo Mathews has officially given up the captaincy of Sri Lanka for all three formats.

This decision came up after the team had to suffer defeat against Zimbabwe. Sri Lanka lost the series 2-3 to Zimbabwe.

According to Mathews, this loss was a new low for the Sri Lankan cricket and steps should be taken to revive the quality of cricket played by Sri Lanka.

In response to the resignation given by Mathews, Sri Lanka’s cricket board has handed over the test captaincy to Dinesh Chandimal and limited over captaincy is handed over to Upul Tharanga.
