Roger Federer completes a historic feat after winning the Wimbledon title
Roger Federer completed his 19th grand slam title win after winning the finals of the Wimbledon in straight sets. After this win, he is widely being entitled as one of the greatest sportsperson and the best tennis has seen.
It was an afternoon filled with emotions and was the final between Roger Federer and Marin Cilic. From the very beginning, Federer was a favorite as he was racing to his 8th Wimbledon title, and he proved why he is one of the best as he came out on top without losing any sets and won the match in one hour and 41 minutes.
With this win at the age of 35, Federer became the oldest Wimbledon title winner. It was never supposed to be easy for Cilic as he was still struggling with the injury on his foot after the semi final against Sam Querry. The injury got a toll on his mind and proved difficult for him to move. He said:
For Cilic it was getting extremely difficult to play his shots and after getting down 3-0 in the second set he finally called for the trainer, but that could only do a little good and a decisive victory soon arrived.
But the good news this is not the end as Federer still wants to be back in 2018:
Modern era greats Andy Murray, Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic proved less danger for the Federer as they crashed out from the tournament either from the injuries or bad play. But still what we witnessed was a reborn Federer who was on a great run and stands tall after winning his 8th title as on the best in tennis history.
