The first trailer for DC’s Shazam is like Big, but with superheroes

At San Diego Comic-Con today, DC unveiled a surprise first look at another of its upcoming superhero films, Shazam We don’t see too much of the Shazam! And the action is limited mainly to Shazam and Freddy comedically discovering what the newly super-fied Billy can do, including taking down a bunch of convenience store robbers.

This movie looks brilliant and a bit old-fashioned compared to most DC Comics superhero movies, to which it is slightly connected. And that’s wonderful. There’s a minor moment between Shazam and Mark Strong ‘s villain, Dr. Thaddeus Sivana where the latter is literally recognized as being “like a bad guy.” Shazam! arrives in theaters on April 5, 2019.

young orphan Billy Batson (Asher Angel) is placed in a new foster home, where he meets his new best friend, the disabled Freddy Freeman (IT ‘s Jack Dylan Grazer).

Starring Chuck’s Zachary Levi, the film focuses on a young boy named Billy Batson.

This trailer is dope. It shows up how the kid after saving his friend runs a goes in a sky train. The train starts to accelerate and reaches a place where this old guy asks him to call his name.

The boys get the superpowers for real. One of the best scenes involves Billy and his foster brother figuring out what powers he possesses. They’re both downright giddy during the process.

Either way, leaning into the freshness of a character like Shazam could be invigorating for DC. It certainly brings plenty of joy to the trailer. Just try not to laugh when Billy marvels about his total lack of knowledge when it comes to his new suit, “Superpowers? Dude, I don’t even know how to pee in this thing.”
