Two new Hangouts Services (Hangouts Meet and Hangouts Chat) launched - KNine Vox

Introducing some major changes to its popular communication service ‘Hangouts’ Google is trying to stick to its current goal of introducing this app as a communication tool. Google today announced that it will be splitting Hangouts into two new services. One is Hangouts Chats and other is Hangouts Meet.

Hangouts Meet focuses on video while other is all about group text chatting.

Google has launched Google Meet quietly a week ago or so for the web and iOS. But today’s official announcement states that this new service will allow businesses to conduct 30-person video conferences without a lot of the normal hassles like each person having his or her own account.

Hangouts Chat will offer businesses a way to create chat rooms for different teams, with ways for each team member to quickly chat and share files with other team members, including content stored in Google Drive and Google Docs. It will integrate with third-party services like Box, Asana and others.

But they have not announced anything about the future state of current Hangouts app and its users. But TechCrunch reports that, according to Google’s Scott Johnston, it will be replaced at some point by the new Meet and Chat apps.
