Apple has been using butterfly keyboard design in the MacBooks since 2015, but now finally Apple has decided to let it go after the keyboard was subjected to the controversy over the poorly designed keyboard, as touch would trigger two keystrokes on a single press.
Reliable Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo (via MacRumors) claims that Apple will use a new, scissor switch keyboard design in future MacBooks.
Kuo said that new keyboard design would be coming in the new MacBook Pro models in 2020, and will have a ‘scissor switch’ mechanism for the keyboards which is what Apple used to employ before shifting to butterfly mechanism keyboards.
Butterfly keyboards were chastised by users over missing keystrokes and multiple keys pressed in a single touch and to get it working right sometimes you need to have a whole keyboard replacement from Apple itself.
The most recent MacBook Pro launched earlier this year features a new and improved ‘butterfly switch’ to cope with all the previous issues and Apple also introduced a free keyboard replacement program for MacBook, MacBook Air, and MacBook Pro which extends to all MacBook models with butterfly keyboards.
But if these rumors are correct we might see the old mechanism keyboards in the new MacBook Pros.
