Netflix has announced that in July 2017 it will begin streaming Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. This is done under a deal with Disney. In 2012 Disney and Netflix signed an exclusivity agreement, starting in 2016, under which Netflix had the right to stream Disney films including those from Pixar, Marvel and Lucasfilm, in the same window when they hit out on television networks.
Well this would be the first time US viewers will be able to watch a proper Star Wars film on Netflix. But before this episodes of Clone Wars series were available on the site, and Netflix debuted the final season of the series.
It is going to be a big hit for Netflix, as a Star Wars movie for Netflix is certainly a big jackpot. Also it is a bit of blow to the networks out there, competing with Netflix. The deal also shuts out any premium cable channels.
