Germany beat Chile to win their maiden Confederations Cup title

A 20th-minute goal was enough from Germany to decide the fate of the match as they emerged winner with a 1-0 scoreline. Germany’s young team proved enough force for the experienced Chile’s team as they were not able to penetrate their defence and ended up goalless.

The only goal of the game came through a costly error from Chile’s Marcelo Diaz which proved to be decisive as this gave Lars Stindl the opportunity to score the opener and win the title.

Confederations Cup serves as a rehersal for the World Cup which is to be held next year in Russia itself, and a young Germany winning their maiden title is going to give the first team a hard time to win their place in the World Cup next year.

The same German team met Chile in the group stages where Germany was seen struggling as the match ended with a goal each. So this result was a bit of disappointment for the much experienced Chile team.

With a disappointing end to the Confederations Cup, Chile will focus on CONMEBOL qualifying for the World Cup, which will be held next year.

At the initial stages it was Chile who seemed to be dominating with back to back shots, but eventually Germany came up with the breakthrough.

Portugal beats Mexico

Before the final, Portugal met Mexico in third place clash and Portugal emerged clear winner with 2 goals to 1. The thriller produced many amazing moments with Mexican Goalkeeper denying Portugal a penalty. But as the game headed into extra time, Portugal again got a chance to score with penalty and this time they did it with perfection.

Portugal finished the game as a superior team and were able to finish third despite the setback they suffered in the semifinal clash against Chile.
