Netflix is quickly taking over the traditional cable network, and with more and more original shows streaming on this platform, it is quite certain where the future is moving.
At the MoffettNathanson Media & Communications Summit 2018 in New York on Monday, Ted Sarandos, the chief content officer announced that by the end of 2018 there will be around 1000 original shows that Netflix will be streaming. That is a huge number and to put things into perspective, 470 of those shows will debut between now and the end of 2018.
This is a great achievement by Netflix and is really amazing, as half of the content of the most popular streaming service will roll out in the next seven months.
This is all because Sarandos announced that 85 percent of the spending will go into original content, and in total company expects to spend $8 billion this year, of what we can expect the major portion will go into the original content.
Sarandos said that more and more creators want to be part of this platform, Netflix is able to secure shows is by having a great reputation with talent and by having a brand that people want to associate with and a good track record of delivering.
More than 80 movies are supposed to hit the streaming platform this year, including small indie films and big blockbusters. The Netflix CCO was also surprised that it took so long for Disney and other big platforms to jump into the streaming business.
