Microsoft’s next-generation Xbox will focus on ‘XCloud’ game streaming

We already know that Microsoft is working towards a release for its next-generation Xbox, likely to arrive sometime in 2020, but while this will be the company’s next big powerhouse console launch.

Thurrott reports that Microsoft is currently planning two different pieces of hardware, one of which will be a traditional console similar to the Xbox brand. The specs are still unknown due to the hardware being in such early development.

First, Microsoft is building a traditional console that you would expect from the Xbox brand. I think it’s important to point this out so that those who prefer all their hardware locally, will have an option with the next generation Xbox.

The second ‘console’ that the company is working on is a lower-powered device that is currently planned to ship with the next generation device that is designed for game-streaming. But the catch here is that Microsoft thinks it has figured out how to handle the latency sensitive aspects of gaming.

Microsoft has become quite confident in their streaming solution and now that they figured out how to bring it to market after many years of development, they are pushing forward with those plans.

Cloud gaming, sometimes called gaming on demand, is a type of online gaming. Currently, there are two main types of cloud gaming: cloud gaming based on video streaming and cloud gaming based on file streaming. Cloud gaming aims to provide end users frictionless and direct play-ability of games across various devices.

This is what, the next-gen XBOX will focus on. There are a variety of game streaming services available to consumers right now, including GeForce Now, PlayStation Now, Shadow, and Liquid Sky.
