WARR Hyperloop wins SpaceX competition for third time, reaches 457 kmph

SpaceX is revolutionizing terrestrial transportation through its Hyperloop services. The company currently provides these services to innovators and universities across the world interested in high-speed transportation technology and solutions. The Hyperloop system built by SpaceX at its headquarters in Hawthorne, California, is approximately one mile in length with a six-foot outer diameter.

To accelerate the development of functional prototypes and encourage student innovation, SpaceX announced the Hyperloop Pod Competition in 2015, which challenges university teams to design and build the best transport Pod. The first two competitions were held in January and August 2017 and were the first of their kind anywhere in the world.

The 154-pound (70kg) carbon fiber pod is powered by a 50kW electric motor and features pneumatic friction brakes that allow the pod to come to a standstill within five seconds, according to the team.

WARR Hyperloop, comprised of a group of engineering students from the Technical University of Munich, has won SpaceX’s Hyperloop pod competition for the third time–and broken a Hyperloop pod speed record in the process.

This was the third time that SpaceX held its hyperloop competition at its headquarters in Hawthorne, California, and it was the third time that WARR Hyperloop took home the top honor.
