Disney is trying really hard to compete with the other streaming services like Netflix etc. The time has come that Disney should launch its own streaming platform and here it is. During the company’s latest earnings call, Bob Iger, Disney CEO said the new streaming service will be “the biggest priority of the company during calendar 2019,” emphasizing how necessary it will be to the company’s long-term deliberated success. It doesn’t have a name right now though, but it does have a strategy.
It is believed to launch in 2019 and is going to release it’s own exclusive Disney library titles as well as a sturdy list of original TV shows and films created just for the service. Development and production are already well in progress for the original productions, which include new episodes of the animated Star Wars: The Clone Wars, a new live-action Star Wars series from Jungle Book and Iron Man director Jon Favreau, and shows based on both the High School Musical and Monsters, Inc. franchises.
The star wars series is expected to cost around $100 million for 10 episodes. Favreau says that the “new streaming service affords a wonderful opportunity to tell stories that stretch out over multiple chapters.” Disney said, “at least 5,000 episodes of old Disney-branded television shows will anchor the service.”
Disney is well aware of all the facts that it will be difficult to launch all these episodes and that isn’t a one-stop shop for everything the company’s various brands have to offer. But in spite of all these facts, Iger States that this new service will cost less than Netflix upon launch.
