Nubia Alpha, a 4-inch flexible smartphone around your wrist

Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2019 clearly showed that 2019 will be all about flexible screens and 5G supported devices. MWC 2019 has brought us into the era of folding devices. We have seen Samsung and Huawei showcasing their foldable 5G supported device, the Galaxy Fold and Mate X, respectively.

The part that was not so common in the MWC 2019 was the use of these flexible screen features in a smartwatch. Nubia has focused on the same idea and has come up with Nubia Alpha, which is a 4-inch curved display smartwatch having almost all the features found in a smartphone

Build Quality

The body is made out of stainless steel and feels really premium. The display is coated in heat-resistant polyimide for a bit of extra protection. Deliberately exposing the device to water like the swimming and showers are out of the question. The IP67 ingress protection rating is somewhat of a testament towards good construction of the device.

Specifications and Features

Nubia Alpha comes with a 4-inch ( 960×192 pixels) OLED display powered by the Snapdragon Wear 2100 SoC, paired with 1GB of RAM and an internal storage of 8GB. Alpha comes with a 500mAh battery expected to have a standby time of 48 hours. It also supports T9 keyboard for typing, and has a built-in ion speaker and microphone. Alpha supports a 5-megapixel camera 82 degree wide angle sensor with f/2.2 aperture.

Price and Availability

The device is available in two options – one supports eSIM which will let the device stand alone and another one supports the conventional Bluetooth connectivity which will pair with a phone. The Black Bluetooth variant will be available in Europe and North America in April. The average global price will be EUR 449. The eSIM variant will be available in China in April for EUR 549 for the Black color options, and the 18K Gold variant will be priced at EUR 649.
