Not long ago the world was taken over by the popular augmented reality game, Pokémon Go. The players were filled on the sidewalks, and the crowd of trainers flooded parks and landmarks, everyone was seen throwing pokéballs and catching their favorite pokémons. Niantic, the company behind the Pokémon Go game has now once again brought a new augmented reality-based game titled- Harry Potter: Wizards Unite built in collaboration with WB games.
The game is similar in concept to Pokémon Go, asking players to traverse a virtual map overlaid on the real world and collect magical artifacts. The Wizards Unite seems fairly overwhelming at first as compared to Pokémon Go. Pokémon Go had the basic concept of “see Pokémon, catch Pokémon” that follows the logic of handheld games pretty easily. But now the creator company has done more than the simple concept. The new augmented game is five times the game ‘Pokémon Go’ was at launch. It is even said that Harry Potter: Wizards Unite packs more stuff at its launch time then Pokémon Go has after three years of its launch.
According to Forbes:-
“Harry Potter does share one central concept with GO, capturing things. But instead of Pokémon, you are capturing or freeing magical artifacts, creatures or even people, cast into the wild by some sort of disastrous spell called The Calamity (yes, Wizards Unite even has a story, complete with voice acting). You need to return all this stuff to its proper places across the Harry Potter universe, and to do this, instead of throwing Pokeballs, you’re casting spells by tracing patterns on your phone with your finger. The faster and more accurately you trace, the more effective your spell will be, and you can get the hang of it quickly. I already like it more than the Pokeball-throwing mini-game, frankly.”
The beta version of the game was first launched in Australia and New Zealand back in the month of May. Now it appears like the Potter fans at the states have got their hands on the game a day early than expected. So yeah, if you’re a Potterhead, the early game will definitely fulfill your hunger and make you feel like you’re part of the wizarding world. I can’t say yet whether the popularity of the game will reach the heights like that of Pokemon Go, but we will definitely get the answer soon.
