Nvidia Unveils ‘Super’ version of GeForce RTX graphic cards

If you are thinking of buying a new Nvidia’s RTX graphics card then you might want to wait for some time because Nvidia’s high-end RTX line up of the company is getting three new additions today in the form of a new variant of gaming-focused graphics cards that the chipmaker is calling “Super”. Nvidia first started teasing something “Super” for the GeForce line right before Computex, and fans and media alike expected an announcement at the world’s biggest PC components show, but there was no such news. It seems as though Nvidia instead chose to bide its time, waiting till after AMD showed its own hand at its E3 event.

AMD’s Radeon RX 5700 series GPU was recently launched to compete with Nvidia’s mid-range line-up but they are very well aware of the fact that they still cannot put forth a good competition against the top line up of the rival company which is Nvidia’s GeForce RTX 2080 Ti. Even after knowing that their top-end tech is still unchallenged, it looks like Nvidia is still not satisfied. By beefing up its lineup but retaining the same product tier names, Nvidia is telling AMD to set its sights lower. The timing couldn’t be any more of a power play.

According to the company, the super versions of the older models provide better speed over their non-super editions. The new line-up has recorded an average speed gain of about 15 percent going max between 20 and 25 percent gains over the older version depending upon your rig.

The new super edition is named as follows, RTX 2060 Super, RTX 2070 Super, RTX 2080 Super. According to Nvidia, they have kept the price for the latter two chips that is RTX 2070 Super, RTX 2080 Super same which means you will be getting the Super editions of the older line-up for the older price range of $499 and $699 experiencing better performance and speed. While the 2060 Super will slot in now at $399 or about $50 more than a standard 2060. But for the RTX 2060 Super, you’ll also be getting 8GB of RAM instead of the standard 6GB.

This new line-up of the company is, however, a little complicated to understand. On one side the 2080 Super offers a superior memory speed of 15.5Gbps over the standard’s 14Gbps but Nvidia is still going with the standard 1080 as their Flagship. But Nvidia has basically made sure that no RTX card of a single numbered tier outperforms that of a higher tier. So you can think of the lineup as containing standard and slightly better Super versions, and then the 2080 Ti is an outlier for those with cash to burn.

The 2060 and 2070 cards launch on July 9th and the 2080 Super comes out on July 23rd. As part of the sale, attracting the Gamer Community, Nvidia is also offering a bundle on RTX Super cards with two free games that take advantage of ray tracing: Remedy Entertainment’s Control and Bethesda’s Wolfenstein: Youngblood, both of which come out this summer. You can play some games at full-HD with RTX ray tracing effects which is a great leap forward towards the next-gen gaming effects.
