Google has officially revealed Android Q’s release name, and surprisingly it’s not named after any dessert that starts with the letter Q at all – the company instead has decided to call it Android 10. The tech giant, in a blogpost, said that the reason behind changing the way it names it’s Android is to increases the global recognition and greater accessibility. “The company over so many years have heard feedbacks that the names weren’t understood by everyone in the global community,” the company stated.
Sameer Samat, VP of Product Management, Android, in a statement said that “First, we’re changing the way we name our releases. Our engineering team has always used internal code names for each version, based of tasty treats, or desserts, in alphabetical order. As a global operating system, it’s important that these names are clear and relatable for everyone in the world. So, this next release of Android will simply use the version number and be called Android 10.” Adding to this he also said that, “While there were many tempting ‘Q’ desserts out there, we think that at version 10 and 2.5 billion active devices, it was time to make this change. Now, this year is Android 10 and next year will be Android 11, and so on.”
Along with changing the trend of naming, Google also upgraded their Android logo for mobile platform. The company has changed the text color from green to black and also switched font style to make it easier to read for the users with visual impairments as green color was found hard to read compared to black. With so many changes in names and text style, Google also has done changes in the logo of Android robot replacing the older one with a fresh new close-up of the Android Robot painted in new shade of green color. The new logo will officially be released in a few weeks for all the Android users over the world.
