Sony took Spider-Man away from MCU

There’s been a dispute going on between Sony and Disney about the spiderman movies in Marvel cinematic universe which is under Disney. Firstly they shared the profits since the first appearance of Spiderman in Captain America: Civil War.

According to this new report, Disney was seeking a 50/50 stake in the character, which apparently was a gigantic no-go for Sony, who had previously only been giving up about 5 percent of the first-dollar gross from the Marvel movies that feature Spidey.

Disney produced one of the greatest hits in Spiderman’s history, “Spiderman: Homecoming” which was a big hit as it also included Iron Man’s interaction with the character. Then came “spiderman: Far From Home” which again was quite a big hit after Avengers: Endgame. Now Disney wants a 50% co-financing profit in the films which Sony doesn’t agree on paying.

13 reasons why season 3 trailer released

Another major reason was the Kevin Fiege who is the president of Marvel Studios was expected to deliver a lot of movies on time which includes the much-awaited “Black Widow” movie, a fourth “Thor” film, “guardians of the Galaxy: Volume 3” and also continue with X-men. This was really a big task for him.

Sony apparently feels that the combined creative team of director Jon Watts (who helmed Spider-Man: Homecoming and the sequel, Far From Home), actor Tom Holland, and producer Amy Pascal will be enough to keep the Spider-Man franchise momentum going for future films, even without Feige’s involvement.

So, basically the result is that Spider-Man, most recently played by Tom Holland, won’t be starring alongside Captain America, Iron Man, the Hulk and other Marvel favorites any time soon.

But this is what Sony said. “We are disappointed, but respect Disney’s decision not to have him (Feige) continue as a lead producer of our next live-action Spider-Man film,” the studio said. “We hope this might change in the future, but understand that the many new responsibilities that Disney has given him — including all their newly added Marvel properties — do not allow time for him to work on (intellectual property) they do not own.” “Kevin is terrific and we are grateful for his help and guidance and appreciate the path he has helped put us on, which we will continue.”

Tom Holland will still be playing Spiderman is still a big question mark in people’s head. But we do hope for the best and that the decision keeps the key elements of the franchise alive.
