Shroud withdraws from Twitch to join Mixer, another major setback for the company

It’s been only months since Tyler “Ninja” Blevins, the most famous streamer of all times, left twitch to join mixer back in August, leaving twitch without their most subscribed streamer and now when the company was trying to fill up the space of Tyler on the platform, they have been struck by the surprising announcement by their, potentially most valuable streamer Michael “Shroud” Grzesiek regarding his exit from the Twitch platform to join Microsoft’s Mixer and streaming exclusively on Mixer from here on out as well.

Shroud and Ninja were both among Twitch’s most popular streamers, and while Amazon’s game streaming platform will likely be fine after their departure, netting names as big as Ninja and Shroud could be a huge deal for Mixer. Microsoft’s Mixer has traditionally lagged far behind Twitch in terms of active viewers (and, by extension, active streamers), but Shroud and Ninja could both provide an influx of users for the platform.

It looks like the exit of “Shroud” the popular streamer and former Counter-Strike: Global Offensive player made the company angry and think of it as an act of betrayal, showing their aggression by stripping Michael “Shroud” Grzesiek of his verified partner badge and removing his channel to show up in the site’s search.

Twitch’s partner badge is one of the harder verifications to get online, and it denotes a level of status on the site. Grzesiek’s announcement was instantly viral and led tens of thousands to the chat on his empty Mixer page. A similar kind of response was shown back in August by the company when Tyler left the platform for Mixer.

On asking Twitch, a spokesperson told that, “Grzesiek disappearing from search was the result of a bug that happened to also hide a number of different streamers, though it did not say who else was hidden. Twitch said it was working to resolve the issue, and Shroud began surfacing in search results again around 5PM ET on Friday after being absent for about a full day.”

The Deal by Microsoft which made Shroud to switch platforms hasn’t been disclosed and likely won’t be. Now what we are interested to know is Who’s next? Will Microsoft keep making big moves like this? Twitch still holds a lot of big names to stay strong in this business but will certainly make a move soon to get back in the game.
