Tesla has revealed it’s first electric pick up truck and it looks nothing like anyone would predict. They revealed it at an event in the Design Studio in Hawthorne, California, just outside Los Angeles.
When Elon musk unveiled the truck, it took everybody in the crowd by surprise. They couldn’t believe that this was the truck they actually thought would come on the stage. The Cybertruck looks like a large metal trapezoid on wheels, more like an art piece than a truck.
The exterior is made from a newly developed stainless steel alloy, Musk said, the same metal that’s used for SpaceX rockets. That alloy enables the car to be “literally bulletproof” against, at least, smaller firearms, including a 9-millimeter handgun, Musk said. He said that the windows are scratch-free because they are made of armored glass. To demonstrate it, he let Franz von Holzhausen, Tesla’s chief of design hit the windows with metal ball. When he hit it, the windows smashed, but ironically, the glass did break. Eventually, it didn’t break completely to which he sheepishly said “But it didn’t go through, “.
The truck will come in three forms with 250 miles, 300 miles, and 500 miles of range, respectively. And it will start at $39,900, Musk said. The truck won’t be rolling off the association line until late 2021, but preorders can be made at tesla.com/cybertruck.
Musk has made electrifying claims about the truck’s capabilities. Among them, he has said the Cybertruck would be more capable, in terms of towing and hauling, than a Ford F-150 and perform as a better sports car than a Porsche 911.
The most expensive version of the truck, the Tri-Motor All-Wheel-Drive, will be able to carry 3,500 pounds, tow up to 14,000 pounds and go from zero to 60 in 2.9 seconds. It will also be able to drive up to 500 miles on a full charge. Base models will have a range of 250 miles.
