$600 million sale was looked into for James Bond ‘No Time To Die’ to streaming services

With the continuous delay in the theatrical release of the next James Bond movie ‘No Time To Die’, the studio explored the possibility to license the movie to one of the streaming services. But the price asked by the studio might just be too high.

The movie was slated to be released in April 2020, but with the increase in the number of coronavirus cases, the release was eventually pushed back to April 2021. Now various reports suggested that this has cost MGM from around $30 million to $50 million.

According to some rumors and insider reports, MGM was actually looking for an opportunity to sell the movie at a massive deal of $600 million, this was a price tag that was too high for any of the streaming service providers.

An MGM spokesperson told Variety about these rumors:

We do not comment on rumors. The film is not for sale. The film’s release has been postponed until April 2021 in order to preserve the theatrical experience for moviegoers,

If these rumors were true then this would have been a challenging task. The studios would incur losses and they would have been compensated.

But given the fact that a theatrical release at this time would not do any good financially to any of the parties involved, a release online on Netflix or Apple would have seemed like a great plan. But now it seems like the movie is heading for a theatrical release next year, until and unless we don’t see any more delays.
