Framing Britney Spears documentary: Our first take

I’m sure most of us remember Britney Spears and her downward spiral that resulted in her being put on an involuntary psychiatric hold. Recently Britney went to court to try to become released from her conservatorship. The #freebritney was always thought of as a fringe movement but recently is starting to become popular.

Many people at the time this was happening to Britney during 2007-2008 was received by the public with a lack of empathy and lack of mental health awareness. Her father, Jamie Spears, has had court-ordered control over her finances and estate since 2008, more than 12 years.

In this documentary, it shows that Britney’s life is shifting for the better. People are starting to take her seriously, there are many people hoping that she will gain the freedom she deserves and people will start taking her seriously.

Michael Moor was one celebrity that did speak out against the public and the tabloids’ treatment of her, saying “it would be less sad if we just left her alone.” While there have been people who supported her it seems more did more harm than good.

A few people that are mentioned in the documentary are her father, Jamie Spears, Justin Timberlake, Diane Sawyer, and Florence Henderson. In total there was 9 to make the list that the documentary calls “the loser list”

Spear’s father recently went on record saying the #FreeBritney movement was a joke, is the villain in the documentary. He’s painted as a heartless man who wants to control his daughter’s fortune. Justin Timberlake makes an appearance on the list. Britney and Justin had a high-profile relationship that ended suddenly and Justin implied that she had cheated on him.

Timberlake has since apologized for his actions against both Spears and Jackson. Not long after Justin’s smear campaign, Britney appeared on Diane Sawyers’s show. Sawyer asked Spears what she did to cause Justin so much pain and then followed it up with Kendel Ehrlich saying that she would shoot her if she could. After that comment, Diane Sawyer sounded like she was defending Ehrlich by saying Britney makes it hard to be a parent.

No matter what your thoughts are on Britney Spears or even if you don’t have any. I think we all can agree she did not have a chance with how the public and media portrayed her.
