IPL 2021 season has been postponed as four players test COVID positive

BCCI has decided to indefinitely postpone the IPL after four crickets tested positive for COVID-19. BCCI and franchises had assured cricketers that they were safe in their respective bio-bubbles, but this all just seemed inevitable.

The news for postponing IPL came after Sunrisers Hyderabad wicketkeeper Wriddhiman Saha tested positive for COVID-19 along with Delhi Capital’s Amit Mishra.

Earlier on Monday BCCI rescheduled the match between KKR and RCB after two KKR players returned positive. Later, it emerged that two non-playing members of Chennai Super Kings camp – bowling coach Laxmipathy Balaji and a member of traveling staff – were also infected.

It had emerged that COVID-19 had penetrated the so-called secure bio-bubble created for teams and there were speculations that BCCI may postpone this season.

The BCCI does not want to compromise on the safety of the players, support staff and the other participants involved in organising the IPL. This decision was taken keeping the safety, health and wellbeing of all the stakeholders in mind. These are difficult times, especially in India and while we have tried to bring in some positivity and cheer, however, it is imperative that the tournament is now suspended and everyone goes back to their families and loved ones in these trying times. The BCCI will do everything in its powers to arrange for the secure and safe passage of all the participants in IPL 2021.

BCCI is already in contact with Cricket Boards of various countries to provide a secure and safe passage of overseas players to their respective countries.

Last year the IPL season was played in UAE, but this year with a travel ban in UAE, the IPL can not be moved to the country.
