Windows 11 is finally unveiled, new design upgrades, and more

Microsoft has today finally launched its all-new Windows 11 after nearly 6 years of Windows 10. The new update is being called the next generation of Windows and includes some major design changes.

The new Windows version includes a new Start Menu and Taskbar, alongside widgets that will work with developer apps.

It seems that Microsoft is trying to counter other operating systems like macOS and Chrome OS with its latest operating system. Windows also remove various features like the “Hi Cortana” welcome screen and live tiles.

One major design overhaul has been the start menu, which is now placed at the center of the taskbar, but you can still change the position to the left by going in the settings.

Windows 11 also includes light and dark mode which is much better than the current windows version. Live Tiles have been removed now, but you will still get some recommendations to better personalize your experience.

There are new themes introduced in the update, including new sound alerts and startup music. Windows 11 also includes updated widgets.

For multitasking, you would be able to split the active screens between multiple layouts from the maximize button. Microsoft calls this feature Snap Layouts, this way users can easily open multiple screens in different layouts by hovering over the maximize button.

Further, Microsoft is improving support for multiple monitors and making it easier for users to work on virtual desktops. The latter looks quite similar to how you can add multiple desktops on Apple’s macOS. However, you can also use custom wallpapers for each of your virtual desktops on Windows 11 for even easy access.

As per Microsoft, Windows 11 will be a free upgrade for current Windows 10 users. The update will be released sometime later this year.

Microsoft said that it has worked with all major silicon partners, including AMD, Intel, and Qualcomm. However, Windows 11 will not be as lightweight as Windows 10 when it comes to minimum hardware requirements as it will require at least a 64-bit x86 or ARM processor, along with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage. Windows 10, in contrast, required at least 1GB RAM and 16GB storage.
