TikTok’s parent company ByteDance has launched a Spotify competitor music app, Resso. The app has been released in emerging markets that are familiar with TikTok.
If you live in India or Indonesia, the music app is now available in these countries. The app is available on iOS and Android, and during its initial test run of 6 months, it was already installed by about 27,000 users.
Resso’s user interface is pretty clean and the app does not seem like a test version but seems more like a final product. Unlike Spotify, Resso also displays real-time lyrics of the song and lets users post comments on the songs.

ByteDance has secured rights from Indian labels T-Series and Times Music. But still, there is no news of music rights from the three big music companies, Warner Music Group Corp., Universal Music Group and Sony Music Entertainment.
ByteDance’s TikTok is also credited with helping various new talent, most notably being Lil Nas X, the singer of viral hit Old Town Road.
ByteDance could be looking for its next big hit in Resso, after TikTok. Resso offers a free version and a premium version which costs $1.70 in India, which is similar to Spotify’s premium pricing.
