Barcelona: Football star Lionel Messi’s 21 month can be replaced with fine. This was indicated by the prosecutors when they said that they are not against this fact that his 21-month jail term for the tax fraud can be swapped with fine.
If this happens Messi will have to pay a fine of 400 Euro per day, equal to the number of days of the jail term punishment. This will amount to about 250000 Euros. Still it cannot be said anything in final as the court has not given any final verdict on this part.
Last year, when Messi and his father Jorge Horacio Messi were found guilty in the tax fraud and they were sentenced to a 21 month jail term and were imposed a fine of 2.09 million euro. Therefore if per day fine verdict is given, this will be in addition to the 2.09million euro fine imposed earlier.
When, Messi and his father appealed, the Spain’s Supreme Court reduced the jail term of Messi’s father to 15 months and Messi’s jail term was unchanged.
Messi and his father were found guilty of using the companies related to Switzerland, Britain, Belize and Uruguay for the means to avoiding of paying taxes on the income of 4.16 million euros that was earned by Messi from his image rights in 2007, 2008 and 2009.
