Sri Lanka deprived of their chance to directly qualify for World Cup after a huge loss to India

Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma powered India to a convincing win in the 4th ODI against Sri Lanka. India registered a huge 168 run win against Sri Lanka. The match was held in Colombo. This was the biggest ever defeat in the terms of runs faced by Sri Lanka at their home soil.

India elected to bat first after winning the toss. Shikhar Dhawan fell early at a modest score of 4. After that, there was a nightmare for the Sri Lankan bowlers. Both Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli constructed a 219 run partnership at a good pace. India passed the score of 200 in 25th over.

Virat Kohli got out at 131 and Rohit Sharma made 104.Sri Lanka did try to make a comeback by taking quick wickets of KL Rahul, Hardik Pandya, and Rohit Sharma. But then Sri Lanka was mostly put out of the game with the help of 101 run partnership between Iceman MS Dhoni and the Manish Pandey. Manish Pandey made his comeback into the India side with brilliant 50 not out and MS Dhoni was not out at 49. With this India gave a huge target of 376.

From Sri Lanka, the pick of the bowlers was Angelo Mathews who took some quick wickets and also had a hat-trick chance.

When Sri Lanka came to bat, there was not fight shown by the Sri Lankan batsman as they lost too many wickets in the first 10 overs. Debutant Shardul Thakur also took his first ODI wicket in the form of Norishan Dickwella.

From Sri Lanka again Angelo Mathews showed some batting fight by scoring 70 runs, but it was not enough for Sri Lanka to pass through the line.

Hence with the loss, Sri Lanka will now not be able to qualify directly for the World Cup 2019.They will have to play qualifiers if they want to play in World cup 2019.The only way Sri Lanka can avoid qualifiers is if West Indies don’t win more than 3 ODI matches against England in the 5 match ODI series.
