Eminem at Oscars 2020 performed his song ‘Lose Yourself’ for which he won an Academy Award at Oscars 2003. This performance notably surprised everyone and made many think why he decided to perform when he originally stayed home when he won the award 17 years ago.
Now in an interview with Variety, Eminem explained why he performed at the Oscars. He said that at the time he was nominated for Oscars in 2003, he didn’t think he was going to win.
“I kinda figured maybe since I didn’t get a chance to do it at the time, maybe it would be cool. Back then, I never even thought that I had a chance to win, and we had just performed ‘Lose Yourself’ on the Grammys with the Roots a couple of weeks before the Oscars, so we didn’t think it was a good idea,” he said in a new interview with Variety, adding, “And also, back at that time, the younger me didn’t really feel like a show like that would understand me.”
So when the rapper got the opportunity to do it now, he went ahead. The whole performance was a well-kept secret, with only 4 to 5 rehearsals being done offsite.
