YouTube has made some changes to their terms of service in the US which will allow them to show ads on the channels that are not monetized. This way all the revenue made through ads will not be shared with the creators.
Earlier ads only showed on the channels that were joined the Partner Program, which require 1000 subscribers and 4,000 hours of valid watch time in the last 12 months. But now YouTube won’t required consent of creators to show ads on the channels.
This decision has upset many of the creators as this means that ads would be shown on their channels and not only this they won’t even be paid their share.
YouTube added new terms Right to Monetize which is mandatory for all the users, below is the snippet of the content:
You grant to YouTube the right to monetize your Content on the Service (and such monetization may include displaying ads on or within Content or charging users a fee for access). This Agreement does not entitle you to any payments.
So probably sooner, everyone small creator will start getting ads on their videos without getting any share. YouTube says that the change is rolling out slowly to some of the videos in the channels not in YouTube Partner Program.
Advertising is one of the major sources of revenue for YouTube and this is also one of the sources of income for channels that are monetized. But in this scenario, YouTube is going to be the only party earning money.
