Conor McGregor in his return fight to UFC was left shocked as he was knocked out in the second round by Dustin Poirier who came out victorious in their rematch at UFC 257. This was McGregor’s first fight since January 2020, who had come out of retirement for the third time.

McGregor looked dominant in the first round, he did land some great punches on Dustin, but it was Dustin who landed a flurry of punches in the second round to land a technical knockout.

McGregor after the loss said:

I’m gutted, it’s a tough one to swallow, I felt stronger than him, but his leg kicks were good. I didn’t adjust. My leg was badly compromised, I’ve never experienced those low calf kicks, and I wasn’t as comfortable as I needed to be. I have no excuses. It was a phenomenal performance by Dustin. I have to dust it off and come back.

Poirier admitted that he was hurt badly in the first rounds and things could have gotten worse if Conor had shown some more pressure. But the low kicks landed by Poirier did damage to Conor’s leg and he was unable to put up strong competition in the second round.

After the fight Conor was seen walking with crutches as it seems that his leg was really pretty bad hurt.

After the fight Poirier said:

It was a lot of things, but it wasn’t payback. That wasn’t the driving force. The first time I was a deer in the headlights. This time he was just another fighter that bleeds just like me. The goal was to be technical, pick my shots and not brawl at all. Then I had him hurt so I went a little crazy.
