Cyberpunk 2077 studio CD Projekt has been hacked by attackers and they were able to access internal data and files, they also encrypted some of the devices as informed by the company in a tweet today. The company also said that certain data has been collected from their systems also.
The company also mentioned that they will not negotiate with the hackers or give in to the demands and assures that no personal data of players or service users has been compromised.
The hackers left a ransom note and have claimed to have accessed the source code of Witcher 3, Cyberpunk 2077, Gwent, and an unreleased version of Witcher 3. The hackers have threatened to release the source code along with internal HR, legal, and financing documents.
CD Projekt said that they have informed the authorities about this and are restoring their data from the backups. The attack follows CD Projekt’s troubled launch of CyberPunk 2077, which was filled with bugs and performance issues.
The company faced severe criticism a few months ago for launching Cyberpunk 2077 in an unfinished state. They have however vowed to address the issue in the upcoming patches but are now facing a lawsuit for misleading the investors about the game’s performance prior to release.
