Nike settles lawsuit with MSCHF, Lil Nas X ‘Satan Shoes’ will be recalled

The ‘Satan Shoes‘ by MSCHF in collaboration with Lil Nas X, as a part of a settlement with Nike, have been recalled by MSCHF.

The shoes received a lot of criticism and Nike felt that a lot of hate is being targeted their way even though they had nothing to do with the collaboration. So Nike sued MSCHF for copyright infringement.

Now Nike and MSCHF had settled the dispute for an undisclosed amount. As part of the settlement, MSCHF will buy back any Satan Shoes and the 2019 Jesus Shoes – which featured a gold crucifix charm and holy water in its midsoles.

The satanic collection of Nike Air Max ’97 sneakers, which were modified with red and black accents, an inverted cross, and a “drop of human blood,” were released with Lil Nas X’s similarly controversial music video for “Montero (Call Me By Your Name).” The music video, abundant with Biblical imagery, enraged conservatives with its queer retelling of humanity’s fall from grace as Lil Nas X’s character took his banishment to hell in stride. 

MSCHF says that they have shipped at least 200 pieces out of 666 manufactured. Nike in a statement said:

If any purchasers were confused, or if they otherwise want to return their shoes, they may do so for a full refund. Purchasers who choose not to return their shoes and later encounter a product issue, defect, or health concern should contact MSCHF, not Nike. The parties are pleased to put this dispute behind them.
