Twitter again pauses Verification Program just a week after relaunch

Twitter has again paused the verification requests process only a week after launching it again. It seems like the company was overburdened by the number of requests that it received and wants to process the already received requests.

Twitter had relaunched its verification program after a hiatus of 5 long years. The verification request feature was available to some users for now and they can apply for the verification on the Twitter profile settings itself.

Twitter had earlier outlined 6 different categories that were eligible for verifications:

  • Government
  • Companies, brands, and organizations
  • News organizations and journalists
  • Entertainment
  • Sports and gaming
  • Activists, organizers, and other influential individuals

Twitter’s main focus on the new verification request program was transparency, credibility, and clarity. The company has said that to get verified the user needs to be notable, authentic, and active.

Twitter said that it will gradually roll out the verification requests form to everyone and will include more categories that can be verified.

But it seems that the company was not totally prepared for the number of requests that it was going to get this time around. In a statement the company said:

We’re rolling in verification requests. So we gotta hit pause on accepting any more for now while we review the ones that have been submitted. We’ll reopen requests soon! (We pinky swear)

So it seems like it might be a while before Twitter again starts the verification process. Till then stay tuned with KNine Vox.
