Android O will be the last official update for OnePlus 3 and 3T

OnePlus 3 and OnePlus 3T were the mobiles that restored the OnePlus fame after OnePlus 2 and OnePlus X dread. But the recent news came as a shock when OnePlus announced that Android O will be the last major software update for OnePlus 3 and 3T.

Oliver Z, OnePlus’ head of product in an interview with OnePlus community manager confirmed the news but said that major security patches will be provided:

Android O is going to be the last Android version update we’ll release for OP3/3T. We’ll continue to release security patch updates for the foreseeable future, and offer support for individual application updates.

It has only been 9 months since OnePlus has been out and it had the top hardware at that time and it seems that this hardware would be more than enough to have one more software update beyond Android O. One of the reasons for the Company’s move is that they have completely moved their focus on OnePlus 5, and this is not something new with the company.

Well if you really want to see updates beyond Android O, eventually you would find enough custom ROMs as OnePlus’ ROMs are quite popular. But if you do not want to be in such a hassle then it certainly is a pain for you.

Overall the news has come as a shock for OnePlus 3 and 3T owners and this is turning out to be a repeat of OnePlus 2 and OnePlus X software update situation.
