Group video calling was first added by the Facebook’s messenger app in October last year, where you could video call more than one person at a time. Whatsapp has finally added the new group video calling feature into its latest update across Android and iOS devices. The group calling feature supports up to four people at the same time. WhatsApp users are claimed to be spending over 2 billion minutes on calls per day, meaning the group video calls was a highly-expected feature.
The app had the video calling feature since 2016 but it was restricted to two participants only. Now its limit has been increased up to four people. All you need to do is, start a video or voice call with one of the contacts. Next, you will see a button at the top-right corner of the screen that will let you add another participant to the call. Once the call gets connected, you can add another person by the add person icon on the top right corner, below which displays al the names of the recipients. Next, if the third user accepts the call, both the names will be shown with a comma separating them. You will be able to add up to three participants to video call up to four people simultaneously.
“You can make a group call with up to four people total – anytime and anywhere. Just start a one-on-one voice or video call and tap the new “add participant” button in the top right corner to add more contacts to the call,” WhatsApp said in a blog.
This feature will lower the struggles of shifting from WhatsApp to some other app just for the sake of having a group face-to-face conversation. The only thing that is to be kept in mind is that for enabling this feature on your phones, you need to update to the latest version of WhatsApp.
