Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse sequel confirmed for April 2022

The sequel for Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, one of the best Spider-Man movies of all time, has been confirmed via a tweet made earlier by Sony Pictures. Along the announcement of the sequel, a cool, glitchy video featuring a warped Spider-Man logo was attached with the tweet. The sequel to Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse will swing into theaters on April 8, 2022.

The movie features Miles Morales, an Afro-Hispanic teen who develops powers when bit by a spider (Like all the other Spider-Man movies we have seen so far). But the movie doesn’t go any further the way all the Spider-Man movies have gone till now. The film introduces multiple Spider-People from different dimensions — like Spider Gwen, Spider Ham, and of course Peter Parker. They all end up in Spider Verse, or we can say Morales’ world, through a dimensional portal and must work together to find their way back home and definitely, stating the obvious, they will be saving the Universe once more like any other superhero movie, after all.

The original “Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse” was a hit with both critics and comic book fans when it was released in 2018. It is regarded as a visionary take on the superhero genre. In a crowded 2019 Oscar field, the movie beat out hits like “Incredibles 2,” “Isle of Dogs” and “Ralph Breaks the Internet” to win for best animated feature.

As far as the production for the upcoming sequel is concerned, director Joaquim Dos Santos (Voltron: Legendary Defenders) will be directing the movie, written by David Callaham (Wonder Woman 1984, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings). Beside that no further production news has been announced yet.
