Ted Cruz and Family Go to Cancun While Texas battle with a huge storm, Sen. acknowledges the trip | Updated

Recently social media was flooded with pictures of Texas Senator Ted Cruz and his family flying from Texas to Cancun. At the time when Cruz was flying off the temperature in Houston was 34 degrees Fahrenheit, 50 degrees below Cancun. The senator is facing a lot of backlash over leaving the state during a state of emergency.

These photos are not yet verified but a spokesman from the Houston Police Department verified that Cruz’s staff asked the department to help with his arrival and movements through the airport. While looking closely at the mask some people have said it is a match to the one that he wore during President Biden’s inauguration.

There have been multiple photos posted on Twitter that appear to indicate that Senator Cruz did fly to Cancun. When running the photos through a reverse-image-search service that can identify if images have been posted before did not turn up with any results.

Although Senator Cruz has no direct role in managing the state’s disaster response these images still prompted a furious backlash. A post on Twitter by Texas Democrats states “Texans are dying and you’re on a flight to Cancun.”

The Texas Democratic Party has called for the resignation in light of his trip. Julian Castro, former San Antonio mayor tweeted: “In crises like these, members of Congress play a critical role connecting their constituents to emergency services and assistance.”

In December, Cruz called Mayor Adler a complete and utter hypocrite when he took a private jet with eight people to Cabo where he recorded a video telling the people of Austin to stay home and this is not the time to relax.

All of this comes after the attack on Capital Hill in which many blamed Senator Cruz and called for his resignation.

Update: Ted Cruz's comments updated

Senator has acknowledged his trip and said that he had traveled to accompany his daughters for a trip as there was no school for the week: “Wanting to be a good dad, I flew down with them last night and am flying back this afternoon”.

My Staff and I are in constant communication with the state and local leaders to get to the bottom of what happened in Texas. We want our power back, our water on, and our homes warm.
