Facebook changes its name to Meta as a part of rebranding strategy

facebook name meta

Ours being the virtual life where one has more virtual friends than the real life ones is wholly social media-driven. Being crazy for putting the stories on it, but everything has its own longevity and so do these apps.

So to make them more appealing, to rejuvenate it, the trend of rebranding has been to the existence. Facebook has decided to rebrand itself as Meta.

“We are a company that builds technology to connect,” Zuckerberg said. “Together, we can finally put people at the center of our technology. And together, we can unlock a massively bigger creator economy.”

The previous ‘rebrandings’ earlier

  •  Google in 2015

Partly to signal that it was no longer just a search engine, but a sprawling conglomerate company making driverless cars and health tech.

  • Snapchat to Snap Inc. in 2016

Switching up to a “camera company” and debuted its first pair of Spectacles camera glasses. And now Facebook is coming up with the same viewpoint by changing its name.

Why does Facebook want to rebrand?

Possibly to reflect its focus on building the metaverse. Rebranding is part of the company’s efforts to shift gears away from being known as just a social media company to focus on Zuckerberg’s plans for building the metaverse.

Other pointers to the ‘metaverse’:

  •  announced plans to hire 10,000 employees to work on it in Europe

What actually is Metaverse?

The metaverse is a digital reality that combines aspects of social media, online gaming, augmented reality (AR), virtual reality (VR), and cryptocurrencies to allow users to interact virtually.

So as the metaverse grows there would be  more multidimensional aspects to deal with compared to the present ones.

And by Meta, Facebook is possibly seeking up to a parenting application with all others like Insta and WhatsApp.
